The Problem

Fires are escalating

Over the past two decades, extreme wildfires have more than doubled in frequency and intensity worldwide — a direct consequence of climate warming. Major ecosystems such as boreal forests, critical for global carbon storage, are now experiencing unprecedented destruction. Across Europe and beyond, wildfire risk is expanding geographically, seasons are lengthening, and fires are becoming more destructive even when overall fire numbers fluctuate. From Canada to Greece, Australia to the United States, the trend is clear: wildfires are escalating into a global emergency that demands innovative and effective solutions.
  • Extreme high-intensity fires have increased 2.2× globally since 2003
  • Boreal forests have seen a sevenfold rise in extreme fire events e
  • Burned areas are increasing and high-risk wildfire weather days continue to rise across Europ

the breakthrough - belisama fire gel

A biological barrier with exceptional fire resistance

This product is environmentally neutral and safe for responders, respecting ecological cycles. It can be used in direct firefighting or as a barrier against forest, domestic, or industrial fires. It is food-grade, producible at large scale in a short time, and represents a viable response to the global increase in fires. By improving firefighting efficiency, it can also reduce carbon emissions and forest destruction, contributing to climate mitigation.

BELISAMA Fire Gel leverages powerful endothermic properties to actively absorb heat at the point of contact. Rather than simply suppressing flames, the gel draws thermal energy away from the fire, rapidly reducing surface temperatures and slowing combustion at its source. This cooling effect is critical in preventing ignition, limiting fire spread, and protecting underlying materials from structural damage.

By forming a stable, insulating layer, the gel maintains surfaces at temperatures lower than the surrounding air, even under extreme heat conditions. This sustained thermal regulation enhances firefighter visibility, reduces smoke and steam generation, and creates safer, more controlled intervention environments — especially in high-risk scenarios such as wildland and hydrocarbon fires.

BELISAMA multiplies the effectiveness of water by more than twenty times, transforming a limited resource into a high-performance firefighting solution. Its gel structure dramatically reduces runoff and evaporation, ensuring that water remains where it is needed most — directly on the fire or protective surface.

This increased efficiency allows firefighting teams to operate with significantly less water while achieving superior results. In real-world conditions, water consumption can be reduced by up to 20–40 times, improving operational autonomy, reducing logistical strain, and enabling faster, more effective response in remote or resource-constrained environments.

Once applied, BELISAMA forms a durable protective barrier that remains effective for up to 72 hours. This long-lasting layer adheres to vegetation, structures, and critical infrastructure, creating a thermal shield that slows or prevents fire ignition before flames even arrive.

This extended protection window is a major operational advantage, allowing for proactive deployment ahead of fire fronts. It enables firefighters and response teams to secure perimeters, protect assets, and manage fire progression with greater control — even in rapidly evolving and unpredictable wildfire conditions.

Unlike traditional retardants that lose effectiveness once dried, BELISAMA can be reactivated simply by reapplying water. This unique capability restores the gel’s protective and cooling properties, extending its operational lifespan without the need for repeated full applications.

Reactivation allows for flexible, adaptive fire management strategies, particularly in long-duration incidents. Weeks after initial deployment, treated areas can regain full protection with minimal additional resources — significantly improving efficiency, reducing waste, and reinforcing long-term fire containment efforts.
